New free downloads in the resources library

In the past few days I have added 3 new free downloads to the image library. Please help yourself to them. Here they are:

The wonderful smell of dried lavender flowers

High-resolution free download of a close-up of dried lavender flowers, a Mediterranean herb used in aromatherapy for relaxation and de-stressing.

This soothing herb of heavenly scent and beautiful purple-blue colour is an old favourite both in the home, to freshen up laundry and make rooms fragrant, and in personal care and health. Lavender can help with dandruff and with insomnia, with fraught nerves and itchy skin.

To me, it conjures up lazy, hot summer afternoons in Tuscany with bees buzzing on and off the ears of ripe lavender flowers.

Dried chamomile buds

This free download is a macro hi-res photo of dried chamomile buds: for tea, infusions, alternative medicine, pot-pourri. Chamomile is a staple of alternative health remedies. Find out more about chamomile.

London Underground

Free downloads from Piccia Neri. Fast life in the city: blurred movement of a London Underground train arriving in a tube station.

Taking photos inside the London Underground is always great fun, if a bit of a challenge. You’re not really allowed and people are so tetchy in London anyway.

Plus, you can’t use a tripod but it’s imperative to hold the camera super-steady the camera somehow if you want to get a good motion blur while preserving clarity and sharpness of the rest of the image. This was shot using a Manfrotto clamp and magic arm.

Usually I remove all chromatic aberrations (i.e. purple or green fringing of edges in challenging light situations) but I left them here, I think they work well with the dynamism of the photo.
